“I’m already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor,” Jim replied. “Then why do we only see you on Christmas and Easter?” Jim looked to the right and to the left, and then leaned over to whisper, “I’m in the Secret Service.”
In truth, my friends, there is no secret service for followers of Jesus Christ. For the Bible tells us (in the New Testament Gospel of Luke, chapter 2, verses 8-14) that when Jesus was born into this world, on that very first Christmas, God Himself let the secret out about His Son:
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
So, you see, my friends, the secret is out! There is no holding it back! God wants it proclaimed to all of the people in all of the world!
Surely those of us who know Him as Lord and Savior can spread the good news of God’s Son, Jesus, who came to save His people from their sins – not only at Christmas and Easter, but all throughout the year!
